MUSEUM ENGELANDVAARDERS
Honoring the brave warriors
It is nice to give these heroes a well-deserved place in history in this way.
The museum is located in a former ammunition bunker that was part of the Atlantic Wall during World War II and is dedicated to the England sailors.
In the Netherlands, an England sailor is the honorary name for all men and women who managed to escape from occupied territory during the Second World War with the intention of joining the Allied forces in England or other Allied territory in order to actively participate in the fight against the enemy.
The museum gives a good picture of the England sailors, people who risk their lives in order to escape through all kinds of ways at sea towards England. Moving stories supported by film, photo material and personal belongings make the story very intense and understandable.
In Katwijk aan Zee on the Boulevard is a monument to the England sailors of two men in a canoe.
